The wife of the Lagos State governor, Dr (Mrs) Ibironke Sanwo-Olu, said on Sunday that her husband appointed more women into his recently constituted cabinet because of his belief that women play a critical role in developing the state.

Mrs Sanwo-Olu spoke at the NASFAT Islamic Centre along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Ogun State during the grand finale of the 20th Annual Women’s Week of the Nasrul-lahi-l-Fatih Society (NASFAT), which had the theme, “The Muslimah as a Catalyst for Maintaining Peace and Harmony.”

Explaining that the role of women in governance cannot be over-emphasized, the governor’s wife charged women to always strive to be role models and agents of change.

She said the Sanwo-Olu administration would continue to give more priority to women and youth development to sustain the peace and development in the state.

“For us to have peace in Lagos, peace in Nigeria, it is our responsibility as women. Let us be good mothers, good wives and embrace peace and unity,” she said.

The president of NASFAT, Engineer Kamil Bolarinwa, represented by the Secretary, Alhaji Abdulkabir Alaraba, urged women to emulate the exemplary character of Khadijat, the wife of Prophet Muhammed, whom he said was an example of what “a pious, modest and courageous woman can accomplish.”
