According to Gift Melecki, it  is very wrong for ladies to  wish not to have mothers in-law, saying the should rather prayer for a good one.
She said, “All women need  is to  have transparent relationship with their mothers in-law, be themselves  and not pretend and they will enjoy the relationship very well.  As for me  I had one of the best mother in-laws anyone can have. She was like a mother to me and extended  the love she had for her son to me.
“So I really enjoyed the relationship with her but unfortunately I lost her recently. I felt deep sorrow  when she died and I am still mourning that lose because I had  40 years experience of married life through her support.”
Gift also advised women to  treat their mothers in-law like their own mothers and  before they know it their mothers in-law will be teaching them some things that will help them for a very long time.
According to a mother, Alice Menihu  the reason why some woman pray for their mother in-law to die is because they have had a bad experience  with their mothers in-law, or know  a relative or friend  whose mother in-law is a thorn in her.
She said sometimes it is because of the stories the ladies may have heard from other women about mothers  in-law.  
Another respondent, Alice said,  “I have a friend who often  visits to narrate how her mother in-law does  not allow her to enjoy her marriage and now  she and her husband have divorced because of the mother in-law”.
She said she however knows another friend who is close to her mother in-law that she sometimes pity herself for not having one as her husband’s mother died before she married him.
Alice said she does not like the way some women maltreat and insult their mothers  in-law forgetting that they are women and will one day become mothers in-law adding that any women praying not to have a mother in-law is indirectly praying against herself for her daughter in-law not to meet her too.
According to Mike Meseko a married man, almost 60 percent of ladies are praying not to have mothers in-law saying it is contrary to the thinking of our mothers  before.  He said the reason for this is that most ladies today lack home training and they also lack marital knowledge. “While some  mothers  in-law fail to realize that their son is married so they still want him to be eating the type of food they are cooking before which his wife might not even know how to cook ,” he adds.
Mike said, if his mother is trying to frustrate his wife he will sit her down  and talk to her alone if she refuses to change he will not allow her to come for a visit again instead he will be sending her money.
He said, “The reason why some ladies don’t pray for mothers in-law is that they are so lazy that if their mother in-law come for a visit, it is a big problem  for them to cook because they know that they cannot cook the  kind of food they cook for their husbands for the mothers in-law”.
Lawal Bankole on his part said, any lady that is praying  not to have a mother in-law is also praying not to enjoy her son. It doesn’t mean that you will pass through what your friend passes through in the hand of mother in-law. It is very wrong to have that kind of notion.
He said if you have a good one or a bad one treat them the way you will treat your own mother so that if your son marries his wife son will treat you well.
