Former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Peter Okebukola, has outlined the reasons why university courses were not effective. Professor Okebukola, in the second NUC lecture series tagged, ‘On the March to Re-Invent the Curricula of Nigerian Universities for Improved Relevance and Global Competitiveness’ said improved curricular will improve quality of university education in the country and enhance student learning and engagement. 

He outlined some of the weaknesses of the university curricular to include outdated course content, inadequate internship period and too many 2-credit unit courses.

He also said that others were too weak in providing exposure to practical experiences, weak in promoting innovation, too many traditional courses, and few courses in emerging disciplines and weakness in fostering development of values.
