The Director General of the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON), Malam Farouk Salim, has said the agency approved 213 new industrial standards for stakeholders and industry use as part of measures to stimulate economic growth through standards.

He stated this in Abuja on Wednesday at a world press conference ahead of the 50th anniversary celebration of SON. 

He noted that the agency has gone through a lot of transformation and evolved to become a standards regulatory body of global recognition.

 “As part of measures to stimulate economic growth, the  federal government introduced the first ever Nigerian National Standardisation Strategy (NNSS) 2020 – 2022, developed by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), and designed to identify priority areas to focus on, based on national needs assessment,” he said.

“Working within the provisions of the Enabling Act, SON has been able to, through the Standards Council, designate, establish and approve standards in respect of metrology, materials, commodities, structures and processes for the certification of products in commerce and industry throughout Nigeria,” he explained 

Speaking further, he said the 50th anniversary will include book launch, exhibitions by companies with MANCAP, awards to deserving staff and companies that have distinguished themselves in strict adherence to SON ethical standards and regulatory frameworks.
