The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) says it is enforcing social distancing in vehicles and motor parks in the effort to contain the spread of the new COVID-19.

The Commander of the Corps in Nasarawa State, Ismaila Maiwada Kugu, told Aso Chronicle that the corps was determined to make people practice social distancing while travelling or waiting at terminals.

“We are not enforcing fines for overloaded vehicles but forcing them to drop excess passengers and make alternative arrangement for them to enhance social distancing. We confirm passengers’ manifest and where none exists, we create fresh ones to track possible positive contact,” he also said.

According to him, FRSC, as a lead agency in traffic management and administration in Nigeria, is ready to support the government to ensure complete cleanliness and sanitation of parks/terminals and vehicles.

Kugu said the FRSC has stationed five ambulances with medical and logistics support at Goshen, Keffi, Garaku, Nasarawa-Eggon and Lafia in readiness for any emergency.

The sector commander advised motorists to adhere to the no overloading order and have their passenger manifest whenever on a journey.

Kugu said a 10-man monitoring team, which he heads, has been set up with unit commanders at the various units liaising with the local government councils.

He said a total of 80 personnel have been drafted for the assignment.
