He also said the “New PDP” is not a different party but the same entity whose existence is recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Speaking on the BBC Hausa radio monitored yesterday, Abubakar expressed their resolve to carry along majority of governors and legislators of the party.
“There are a number of disputes in the party, between the President and some governors, between President and some legislators and even among the members. Despite this, there was no effort of resolving these disputes, so we thought that it should not be allowed to go like this,” he said.
“We are aware that you cannot separate politics with such differences, but there is the need for peace even in politics. As such, we broke away because we have been shunned; the president is not listening to us. Therefore, it became necessary to take this action, with the hope that it will make them listen to us.”
The former vice president said there was nothing wrong with breaking away, because the constitution allows people to form their faction if they have problem with their party.
“Nigerians should now wait and see what happens in the next few months, reconciliation or not,” he added.
