The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division of Nigerian Army, Enugu Major General Adamu Baba Abubakar has called for a holistic review of security operational strategies and preparedness in order to tackle the current security problems bedeviling the country.
Major General Abubakar said this on Monday when he declared open the 82 Division Inter-Brigade Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Competition 2018 at the Division’s Garrison, Enugu.
He said it was imperative for all formations in the Nigerian army to constantly engage their officers and men in training to maintain sound, mental and physical readiness to always effectively deal with the security challenges in the country.
He explained that this would be in line with the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai’s vision which is “To have a professionally responsive Nigerian army in the discharge of its constitutional roles.”
Abubakar said the aim of the competition was to enhance and improve the physical fitness, leadership traits, discipline, cooperation and spirit-de-corps among the Senior Non-Commissioned Officers and officers as well as custodians of customs and tradition of the army.
The GOC stressed that the need for this cadre of soldiers to be properly trained and grounded in warfare dynamics and battle maneuvers cannot be overstated, adding that the annual competition has been held for over 15 years now in all the formations of army.
