Haruna made the statement at a press conference in Dutse,the Jigawa State capital, yesterday.
He said: “We have had the opportunity of travelling to Niger Republic and other African countries to see how they are managing herdsmen and their livestock.
“In Niger Republic, particularly, we observed that they have ministry of agriculture separate from the ministry of livestock development. They said before the discovery of oil, their major sources of foreign exchange were livestock, skin and hide, bones and even huff of the cow.
“The ministry takes care of the issues of grazing reserves, livestock vaccination, herders/farmers relations among others. We want the same thing in Nigeria because the ministry of agriculture is trying but a separate ministry of livestock will do better.”
He said the famers/herders clash was minimised in Jigawa because of the proactive stand taken by government, adding that Miyetti-Allah, the police, traditional institution and the farmers have joint committees in the 27 local government areas that meet regularly.
Haruna said that it was resolved that anytime a fight ensued between the Fulani and the farmers, Miyetti Allah should be allowed to wade in and solve the problem.
According to him, Miyetti-Allah is more than capable of resolving the issue, including punishing its members found guilty.
The Chairman congratulated the new national leader of Miyetti-Allah, Alhaji Muhammad Kirowa(Ardon Zuru) and the Genel- Secretary, Alhaji Baba Usman.
 He called for the development of 476 grazing reserves in Jigawa, adding that “the present ones are well taken care of but they are not enough.”
