Why would you leave someone you love?

Most times, this union is truncated after many years together. All relationships may not end up in marriage, but it is a general belief that when two people have been together for more than three years, their relationship should take them to the next level. Taking the attention off relationships, it is also becoming common to find that some marriages end up same way as relationships.
You may ask the question why an institution as rock-solid as marriage could also end with the people involved harbouring ill feelings like resentment, anger, indifference and malice. It is no longer strange to find a couple grinning from ear to ear on their wedding day, looking content and less than a year into the union, they are both ready to tear each other apart, physically and emotionally. There are also cases of some people being abandoned at the altar by their partners for one reason or another.
The reasons, as we will find in this write up, are different to various individuals. One wonders at the decisions taken at crucial times like months or weeks before a wedding ceremony, when the decision is taken to forget everything. Sometimes even on the wedding day, one or both parties decide to say goodbye to the union.
While no one is perfect, it is often sad to see relationships and even marriages crumble after so much effort have been put into it. Combined efforts from both the people involved and their loved ones, especially in failed marriages where the notion of true love and family is defeated.
This writer conducted a survey on the subject matter and came up with the following views from some people;
Lateef Fatai Arisekola said, “I would only abandon my partner if I catch her messing around; cheating is the only reason why things would forever change between us.”
Jatto Ibrahim said, “Being lovelorn could factor in as a reason why anyone would turn their backs on someone they love. I would surely leave my partner if she does not love me the way I love her.”
Oseme Gift said:“In the case of relationship break up, the person may not be ready to settle down and also feel like he/she should not waste the significant other’s time”.
Victor Agboola is of the opinion that he would leave his partner in the lurch if she was caught in the act, cheating on him after repeated warnings and suspicion.
Pius Ernest said the logical reason could be that the person leaving believes he/she deserves better than they are getting.
 “I would leave due to behaviour or character problems or family background issues. I’ll also leave him if I find someone better than him.” Says Ogechi Okenwa
Samuel Ochima on his part said, “I can leave for a number of reasons; if I find out she hid the fact that she had a child before we met, if she cheats on me, if she is a thief or if she lied about her age.”
Brume Bezi is of the opinion that a relationship or marriage can be called off or annulled as a result of having its foundation built on lies.
From the various reasons given by the respondents, there are different reasons why a beautiful union may turn sour and become a thing of the past. So, it is better to be absolutely sure and place the relationship/marriage in the hands of God, as well as trying to maintain the values of honesty, sincerity, respect and consideration, as no union can survive on love alone.
