A Chief Magistrate Court sitting at Kwadon town of Yamaltu Deba LGA of Gombe state, yesterday sentenced a 60-year-old widow to two years imprisonment for the offence of theft and house trespass.

The convict, one Amina Jibir of Nassarawa residential area of Gombe metropolis was accused of trespassing into a house in Kwadon town and carted away properties worth over N350, 000.

The police First Information Report (FIR), read to the convict when she appeared before the court stated that on June 18, she trespassed into the house of one Adamu Kawu and carted away football jersey, clothes and other household items worth N350, 000 belonging to his son one Kamal Adamu.

The court was told that when the convict was arrested, she was also found in possession of kitchen utensils, wrappers and other household items valued yet unknown, items she allegedly stole from another house. When asked by the court if the charges preferred against her are true, she pleaded guilty. 

She also told the court that she resorted to stealing after the death of her husband, to fend for herself and the orphans left behind by her deceased husband.

In his verdict, Chief Magistrate Bala Chiroma sentenced her to two years imprisonment without an option of fine.
