A 27-year-old Ahmed Usman of Pompomari ward, Damaturu has been arraigned before the Magistrate Court 1 sitting in Damaturu for allegedly raping a 9-year-old girl.

Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Hayatu Musa, told the court that on August 28, 2017, the father of the victim, Adamu Usman, reported at Maisandari Police Division in Damaturu that the accused person threatened his daughter with a knife and defiled her.

Musa said that the wife of the accused persons also revealed during investigation that she caught the husband in the act.

“His wife, Fatsuma Ahmed, confessed to have caught him defiling the innocent girl,” he said.

He said the accused person has therefore committed an offence contrary to sections 397 and 283 of the penal code law.

When the First Information Report was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor presented three witnesses, including the victim that testified against the suspect before the court.

He also asked for time to present three more witnesses, including the accused person’s wife, which would enabled him prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.

The presiding magistrate, Abubakar Lamba Malori, adjourned the case to October 23, for hearing.
