Sunday Trust learnt that Nasiba, who got married in April, allegedly kidnapped her husband’s younger brother, Abbas Mohammed and took him to Yan-Tsakuwar Ruga in Bichi Local Government Area of the state, where she pushed him into a deep well.
Our reporter gathered that the boy’s decomposing body was found by villagers two days after she committed the crime.
It was further learnt that the trouble between Nasiba and her husband, which started some months ago, reached its peak last week when she was divorced following an unending squabble between her and her mother-in-law.
Bashir, however, said the relationship between his wife and his mother was cordial until some weeks ago when they started quarrelling over kitchen utensils.  
“When my meal was served in a plate, my wife flared up and started nagging. She actually engaged my mother in a war of words. Since then she would not stay at home. If I left for work, she too would go out. And when I told her to stop, she asked me to divorce her,” Bashir said.
He said that after mounting pressure on him, he divorced her, but she refused to leave his house. “She started demanding for divorce that day when I was going out, so I picked a pen and a piece of paper and wrote that I had divorced her. To my surprise, she refused to leave my house for several days. “I invited her parents, but she said she was pregnant. I demanded that we should go to the hospital for pregnancy test. After examination, the doctor told us that she was not pregnant. It was after this that she left my house,” he said.
Sunday Trust gathered that few days after she left the house, precisely on a Thursday, her husband’s younger brother was kidnapped.  Narrating how his son was kidnapped, Nasiba’s father-in-law, Mallam Ahmed Mohammed, said his son’s ex-wife covered her face with a veil and went into his house, where Abbas was kidnapped last Thursday.  “When I returned from the market, my wife told me that my 10-year-old son was nowhere to be found. We went round our neighbourhood and a woman said she saw him with a young woman who covered her face with Hijab. We reported the case to the police,” he said.
He said that the following day, a strange line called one of his sons and demanded that the phone be given to his wife. “When the phone was given to her, a woman told her that our son was with her and that she had killed him in retaliation for her divorce. My wife recognised her voice to be that of her son’s divorced wife,” he explained.
He said they informed the police and the parents of the divorced wife, adding, “The following day we all went to the police station, and during interrogation, she flared up and said she killed the boy because my wife made her to leave her husband’s house.”
Also narrating her ordeal, Nasiba’s mother-in-law said, “When she called me on phone I recognised her voice. She told me that I would never see my son again, that she killed him because I made my son to divorce her. I swear to God, she was the one that called me on phone, “she said. But Nasiba denied killing the boy, saying, “I am not a killer. They said I killed my husband’s brother, but I am not the one that killed him.”
She also denied calling her mother-in-law with a strange line, saying it was one Rahama Aminu that spoke on the phone. When contacted, Rahama said she was in the kitchen preparing her husband’s meal when Nasiba brought a phone to her, saying she should receive the call. “The phone was ringing but I refused to receive the call even though it was my husband’s phone,” she said.
Responding to the allegation, Rahama’s husband, Aminu Hashim, a farmer in Bichi Local Government Area said he lent Nasiba his phone when she told him that she wanted to make an urgent call. “She rushed to my house and said I should give her my phone, which I did. She left immediately with it, so I didn’t know who she used it to call until when the police came to arrest me and my wife,” he said.
When contacted, the police public relations officer, Kano State command, ASP Magaji Musa Majia confirmed the report, saying that Nasiba has since confessed to the crime. He said the suspect was traced with the phone number she used in calling her mother-in-law. “At the divisional police station she made a confessional statement,  that she threw the boy into an open well. It was inside the well that the boy’s corpse was found. And when we invited the relatives of her husband, they identified it as that of the missing boy,” ASP Majia said. “The owner of the phone has opened up, saying the woman was the one who borrowed his phone and used it to call her mother-in-law who recognised her voice,” he added. The police spokesperson ensured that after investigation, appropriate legal action would be taken against the suspect.
