Suspected armed bandits abducted the wife and son of a prominent resident, Alhaji Abass (popularly known as Daniyan Saba), in the Ndeji community of the Lafiagi Emirate, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The victims, who were abducted over the weekend, reportedly escaped from their captors while being marched deeper into the forest.

Local sources told Daily Trust that gunmen stormed the community in the early hours of Saturday, causing panic among residents before whisking the victims away to an unknown destination.

It was gathered on Tuesday that the victims were later found in the Oreke community.

Speaking on the issue during a telephone chat on Wednesday, a vigilante commander in Gbugbu, Gina Muhammad, confirmed the abduction and the victims’ eventual escape.

According to him, the victims are the wife and son of Alhaji Abbas, who himself was recently kidnapped and spent over a month in a bandits’ den before his release.

“We learnt it was while the kidnappers were trying to take them across the Kogi highway that they escaped. However, we don’t know if a ransom was paid this time around for his wife and child,” Muhammad said.

Abbas previously told Daily Trust that he and his manager, Mallam Abubakar Issa, were only released after a ransom of N105m was paid to their captors.
