The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has directed contractors handling major infrastructure projects across Abuja to strictly adhere to agreed timelines, as preparations intensify for the commissioning of key projects marking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s third anniversary in office.

Wike issued the directive yesterday during an inspection tour of ongoing projects within the FCT.

The minister visited several key project sites, including the Jahi–Gwarimpa Interchange, the Airport Road to Kuje corridor, the Kuje–Gwagwalada road, the City Gate project, and the Wuse/Central Area link roads.

While commending the quality of work in most locations, he stressed the need for faster delivery to meet the commissioning schedule.

At the Jahi–Gwarimpa Interchange, being handled by CBC Global, Wike described the quality of work as “very, very good,” noting that the project could reach over 95 per cent completion within two weeks. However, he expressed concern over the completion timeline for the bridge component.

“There is no doubt about the quality of the job, but I am still doubtful about completion on time. They have given us their assurance, and I hope they will keep to it,” he said.

At the Airport Road to Kuje Junction project executed by Arab Contractors, the minister expressed optimism that the project could be completed before the end of the month, while also noting steady progress on the Kuje–Gwagwalada road.

He particularly commended Julius Berger for work done on the City Gate project, describing it as a “beautiful work” that would significantly enhance the entrance into Abuja.

Despite the progress recorded, the minister insisted that all contractors must meet deadlines in line with the anniversary commissioning programme.

“These are projects scheduled for inauguration during the third anniversary of this administration. I am appealing to all contractors to keep to their timelines,” he said.

Wike also noted that while work on the Wuse/Central Area link roads was satisfactory, there were still concerns about the pace of execution.

He further disclosed that several projects have been lined up for commissioning during the anniversary period.
