The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed grief over the death of the FCT Head of the Civil Service, Mrs. Grace Adayilo, stating that he had pleaded with President Bola Tinubu to extend her service because of her hard work.

Mrs. Adayilo, who was the pioneer Head of the Civil Servants in the FCT, died yesterday in Abuja.

During a media chat on Monday, the minister described Adayilo’s death as “sad and pathetic.”

He praised her as a hardworking woman and said he had written to the President to extend her tenure.

“The late FCT Head of Service was very hardworking. I pleaded with President Tinubu to extend her tenure due to her hard work,” he said.

He added, “If I had gotten the information on the demise of the FCT Head of Service, I would have put off this media chat. Her death is really sad and unfortunate.”

According to him, “Sometimes, you don’t even know what to say. I never heard she was sick. Just as I was coming, I was informed by my Chief of Staff. And I said, ‘Was she sick?’ He said no, that she normally preaches in the church, but yesterday, she was unable. She was feeling she had high blood pressure and all of that. Before they rushed her to the hospital, they confirmed that she was dead.

“And it’s very pathetic. Very hardworking. It was because of her hardworking nature, she ought to have retired. I had to write to Mr. President to extend, and Mr. President magnanimously implemented it. It is so unfortunate, and may her soul rest in peace,” he said.

Also, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has expressed her deepest sympathy over the death of Mrs. Grace Adayilo.

Mahmoud described the late Head of Service as a distinguished administrator, a seasoned technocrat, and a dedicated servant of the people who gave her best in the discharge of her duties with utmost professionalism, humility, and commitment.

In a statement issued by her Special Assistant on Media, Austine Elemue, the Minister described Adayilo’s demise as a “huge loss, not only to the FCT Administration but also to the nation at large.”
