Windstorm destroys over 200 houses in Kazaure

Windstorm destroyed over 200 buildings in Kazaure town, the headquarters of Kazaure Local Government Area of Jigawa state.

This was disclosed by the Zonal Officer, Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency in the local government, Malam Sale Nuhu.

He said assessment of the disaster victims was on going and that so far they had recorded over 200 houses that were affected by the storm.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday, was said to have hit the town in high velocity leading to a lot of destruction largely on buildings and trees.

Bala Idi, a resident of the town, said he counted over 100 houses damaged by the wind which started at around 6:00pm, saying most of the affected buildings had their roofs blown off while the affected trees were uprooted.

Idi added that the disaster had also wrecked havoc on villages arund the Kazaure town.
Another resident, Babangida Andu said, “Following the disaster, the town has been thrown into darkness as electricity supply has been cut-off.”
