One person has been reported killed and 32 houses destroyed by windstorm and flood at Yan Tsagai village in Rano LGA of Kano State.

The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr Sale Jili, confirmed the disaster in an interview with newsmen in Kano.

Jili said the disaster occurred in the village on June 4, and that it affected no fewer than 60 people, out of which one person died and two people were injured.

He said the agency had deployed personnel to the community for damage assessment, while the victims had been given relief materials.

He further said, “Some of the displaced are taking shelter with their relatives, while some have started rebuilding their houses.

“We visited Yan Tsagai village and distributed relief materials to the victims as a measure to alleviate their suffering.

“The items distributed included 30 bags of rice, 30 bags of maize, 30 bags of beans, 30 bags of cement, roofing sheets and nails.

“Other items were buckets, spoons, cups, vegetable oil, pillows, matrasses, tin tomatoes and Maggi cubes.”

He advised residents of the state to always keep their drains clean and not to build on waterways.
