Nine winners have emerged at the just-concluded Hi-Life Fest 2018 talent hunt show, as they carted home a total sum of N6.6million cash prizes.
The event which had two categories, namely Igbo highlife music and cultural dance, saw Dons Ifeanyi, a Musician from Anambra State emerged winner in the highlife music category while Umuchiziri dance group led by Chuzzy Anene emerged winner in the cultural dance category. Both winners went home with a cheque of N2million prize money each.
While Ifeanyi was decorated as the Hi-Life Fest 2018 King, the Umuchiziri dance group was also decorated as Life Royalty dance group amidst wild jubilation by fans.
“I will establish my musical career with the prize money of N2 million,” Ifeanyi said after he was announced winner in the highlife music category.
According to the organiser, the first runner-up in the highlife music category, Chuks Arthur Uwazie received a cheque of N500,000; Kalapi Ojuka, who came third got N400,000; while Obiajulu Adachi and Agbom Emanuel received N300,000 and N200,000 as 4th runner-up and 5th runner-up respectively.
Also, the 2nd runner-up in the cultural dance category, Kanaowo Cultural dance group from Port-Harcourt received a cheque of N500,000, while the 3rd runner-up group, Asinodrick Cultural dance group, received N400,000.
Uwazie, the 1st runner-up in the highlife music category, who hailed from Owerri in Imo State, commended Nigerian Breweries Plc for organising the competition aimed at giving hope to young and up-coming musicians towards building a brighter music career.
“I am grateful to God for making me a winner that is going home with N500,000 today, and to NB Plc, I really duff my hat for you. This is because Nigerian Breweries Plc is the only company I have ever seen in all my life that wants to elevate indigenous young and up-coming musicians. They are so unique,” Uwaize said.
He added: “As we know, there are so many talented musicians out there but nobody is really ready to help them. I appreciate NB Plc for organizing this HiLife Fest talent hunt show.”
In separate interviews after the event, winners vowed to plough their prize money back into their trade, to enable them get more musical instruments to improve their singing careers.
It will be recalled that the HiLife Fest traditional music talent hunt started on March 18, 2018 with over 700 contestants who registered and were screened across South-eastern Nigerian cities including, Aba, Port-Harcourt, Asaba, Onitsha, Owerri, Nsukka and Abakaliki.
