Winners of Rainbow Book Club writing contest emerge

Winners in three categories of the Rainbow Book Club essay competition have been released. 

The first position in the Primary School category went to 9-year-old Kaitonna Okongwu (Primary 4) from Dietams International School. Second is 10-year-old Adolphus A. Pepple (Primary 5) from the same school, and third, Bouquet Chima-Igwe, 9, (Primary 5) from Olivet Heights International Schools. 

Barika B. Godspower, 13, (JSS 3) from Model Junior Secondary School took the first position in the Junior Secondary School category. Robert Favour Chinemerem, 15, (JSS 3) from Model Junior Secondary School is Second, and Elijah Joy, 14, (JSS 3) third from Kenneth Commercial and Technical College. 

For the Senior Secondary School category, Emmanuella Wokoma, 13, (SS1) from Baptist High School is in first place. In second place is Miracle Okwele, 15, (SS2) from Baptist High School, and in third position Etejeakpakpo Glory, 15, (SS2, Archdeacon Brown Education Centre) and Wike Shalom, 14, (SS1, Olivet Heights International School).

The competition was on the topic ‘The Rivers State of my Dreams’ and it was to celebrate the Children’s Day and the Rivers State Golden Jubilee. After much deliberation, the judges came up with a shortlist of 15 out of 72 students; five from primary schools, four from Junior Secondary schools and six from Senior Secondary Schools.

From the 15 shortlisted students, three winners emerged. The schools of the winning students would be contacted by the Rainbow Book Club. 

The judges for the competition are Port Harcourt authors, Chimeka Garricks (who wrote ‘Tomorrow Died Yesterday’) and Kaine Agary (who wrote ‘Yellow Yellow’).

The essay competition was organized by the Rainbow Book Club on May 27 2017.
