The production which is centred on people living with HIV premiered in Lagos on March 17, 2012 and is already being aired on DSTV.
The six-part drama series set in Kenya was created by the MTV Base, focusing on the behaviour of a group of young people with a central theme dwelling on male sexuality, transactional sex, hangouts and relationships.
The story line promotes messages about the importance of HIV screening, stigma reduction, use of condoms and gender inequality.
Banky W and Wizkid who are perceived as great influence on African youths, played in the series, while Kenyan-based Nigerian musician Emmanuel Ikubese; popularly known as 9con played the character, Femi.
The series’ soundtrack was also written and produced by the duo of Wizkid and Banky W. ‘Shuga’s second series, continues and expands the stories and theme that began in Shuga series 1; which premiered around the world in 2009.
