A 25-year-old woman, Akaka Oranwe, was yesterday arraigned before an Ikeja chief magistrate’s court for allegedly beating her teenage houseboy and injuring him on the hand with a knife.
Oranwe, who resides at 26, Anipele Street, Mushin, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of assault and bettery.
She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benson Emuerhi, said that the accused beat her 13-year-old housekeeper, Ifesinachi Ibekwe, mercilessly and injured him on the hand with a knife on July 3, 2018 at her residence.
“The victim was brought to Lagos to work as a house help at her house. Oranwe usually beats the housekeeper and inflicts injuries on him whenever he does something wrong in the house. The woman, on this occasion, beat him to pulp and inflicted injuries on his hand for not waking up in time to do house chores,” Emuerhi said. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olufunke Sule-Amzat, granted the accused N20,000 bail, with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate ordered that the sureties should be gainfully employed, have property in Lagos State and possess evidence of two years’ tax payment to the state government.
Sule-Amzat adjourned the case till November 22, 2018 for hearing.
