A 28-year-old woman, Mariam Tijani, on Monday prayed the Upper Area Court, Mararaba in Nasarawa to dissolve her marriage over her husband’s failure to care for the family.
Mariam who accused her husband, Abdul Tijani, a businessman, of being irresponsible, told the court that she was no longer in love with him.
According to Mariam, she and Tijani got married on July 1, 2017 in line with the native laws and customs of Kogi state.
“ Our union is blessed with one child, who is now 11 months, my husband has failed in his duty as a husband, father and in his attitude towards me and our child.
“Abdul does not take good care of us, he does not provide us with clothing and proper feeding, this has killed the love I have for him,” she said.
She said that Tijani had refused to change in spite of concerted efforts to make him treat the family well.
“I have lost love and affection for Abdul and the marriage has broken down irretrievably, I no longer desire to remain in the marriage and I am pleading that it should be dissolved,” she said
She also requested that the court should grant her custody of their only child and compel Abdul to pay N30,000 monthly for the baby’s upkeep.
The respondent, however, denied all the allegations, and pleaded for time to enable him discuss and settle issues with his wife.
The Judge, Ibrahim Shekarau, adjourned the case until May 10, for hearing and consideration of settlement. (NAN)
