A housewife, Rashidat Quadir, seeking divorce has told an area court sitting in Centre Igboro in Ilọrin, Kwara State, that her husband has formed the habit of smelling her pants whenever she returns home from work over suspicion of adultery.

Rashidat, who also told the court that their 11-year-old marriage was childless, said, “Each time I go out, he is always suspicious and forces me to swear with the name of Almighty Allah and the Qur’an. He accuses me of visiting another man and makes trouble with me.

“He has lost trust in me and goes as far as inspecting my pants and underwear to know if I had sex outside.”

She further said that her mother-in-law told her several times to look for another man and stop wasting her youthful age in their family.

She said, “I packed out of the house three months ago after much threat, frustration and pain.”

The respondent, however, said that he was still interested in the marriage, adding that he did not chase his wife out of the house.

He said, “I went to the office only to find out she was gone after I returned.

“The only thing I remember is that six years ago my parents called her parents to confirm if she was the cause of the childlessness.

“She refused to allow me to have sex with her for two weeks. That was my reason for doubting her.”

The respondent also said that he tried to settle the issue by going to visit his in-laws who asked him to be patient with her and that she would return home.

The Judge, Shehu Ajimobi, granted the respondent time to enable him settle with his wife, advising that divorce should be the last resort while also appealing to her to be patient and adjourned the case to November 6, 2023.
