The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old woman for allegedly killing her husband with a machete and injuring two other women in the state.

The command’s spokesperson said the suspect reportedly inflicted multiple machete wounds on her husband following a quarrel over an undisclosed issue at their home. After allegedly striking her husband five times, the suspect sent her child to call a neighbour.

According to the police, when the neighbour entered the room to help, the suspect picked up the machete again and attacked her. She then abandoned both victims in a pool of blood.

“She picked up her two children and moved to another woman’s house on the street, carrying a sledgehammer. She deceived the woman by claiming her husband was assaulting her 12-year-old child and begged for help,” the spokesperson said.

According to the PPRO, as the second woman bent down to prepare to leave with her, the suspect reportedly pounced on her with the hammer.

He said the victim’s screams attracted neighbours, who eventually restrained the suspect and rescued the woman.

He said the three victims were rushed to the hospital for medical attention; however, the husband was pronounced dead, while the two women remain in critical condition.

In a video interview with the police, the suspect claimed that the two women she attacked were her “enemies,” though she did not disclose the specific cause of the initial quarrel with her husband.
The woman, who had three children with the deceased, blamed her actions on uncontrollable anger.
