Woman accused of stealing 2-month-old baby in Ibadan

A 25-year-old woman, Odunayo Odunlade, has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court in Mapo, Ibadan, for allegedly stealing a two-month-old baby.

Odunlade pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of stealing.

The Magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Latunji, admitted Odunlade to bail in the sum of N500,000, with two reliable sureties in like sum.

The case has been adjourned until October 21 for trial.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Oluseye Akinola, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 24 in the Lascap-Oniyanrin area of Ibadan.

Akinola said that Odunlade stole the child from the bedroom where his mother had placed him.

According to Akinola, officers at the Mokola Police Station immediately began an investigation after receiving details of the defendant’s alleged crime.

The police were able to successfully track the defendant to a location, which was not disclosed, several days after the child was stolen.

The prosecutor stated that the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. ii, Law of Oyo State, 2000. (NAN)
