The Delta state police command has arrested a 24- year-old woman, Sofia Nkwor, for allegedly dumping her a year- and month-old child in a well.
The state Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, who disclosed this on Thursday in Asaba during a press briefing, said the incident happened on April 26, 2024.
Olufemi said the suspect dumped the child in a well along the road in Araya community, Isoko South LGA.
He said children who were playing around a tree in the area, discovered the child floating on the well.
He said the operatives of the command in the locality swiftly swung into action and arrested the suspect.
The commissioner, who added that the suspect confessed to the crime, said investigation was ongoing.
Olufemi also disclosed that a strategic team deployed to Ughelli had so far arrested six suspected kidnappers, recovered one pump action gun and three berretta pistols.
Other items recovered, according to him, are one revolver pistol and one locally made cut-to-size gun.
