Police in Nasarawa State have detained a middle-aged woman, Khadija Aliyu, for her alleged involvement in the theft of a 7-day-old baby in Keffi, the headquarters of the local government area.
The police spokesperson, Ranham Nansel, in a statement, said the suspect was apprehended on Saturday, September 28, 2024, during a naming ceremony in Keffi LGA.
According to the statement, the suspect, who had been posing as pregnant, attended the ceremony held behind the INEC office in Keffi.
“While the event was in progress, the suspect discreetly entered the residence and took the baby, who was sleeping. She concealed the child beneath a veil and attempted to escape before she was caught,” DSP Nansel said.

In a separate incident, one Hussaini Mohammed, a resident near the stadium in Keffi and a former convict released from a correctional facility a few months ago, was arrested by police operatives from the Angwan Lambu Division for motorcycle theft.
Nansel, in another statement, said three motorcycles suspected to have been stolen were recovered from Mohammed during the investigation.
