Woman bags 2 years for trafficking girls

A 33-year-old human trafficker, Amaze Ogieriakhi, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment by the Benin Division of the National Industrial Court, Edo State, for recruiting and trafficking girls for prostitution.

Justice A A Adewemimo, however, gave the convict an option of a N200 fine.

Earlier, the counsel to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Tonia Mbemeje, told the court that the accused recruited girls in Nigeria for prostitution in South Africa.

She said that the accused in 2019 also organised foreign travel for one Omoruyi for the purpose of trafficking her to South Africa for prostitution.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charge and begged the court to temper justice with mercy.

Justice A A Adewemimo sentenced her to two years imprisonment with a fine option of N200,000.
