Hajiya Jummai had gone to lay complaint against some mobile policemen to the commissioner, but was however directed to channel the grievance to the officer in charge of the mobile police force in the state.

The business woman was said to be irked by the advice and started raining insult on the CID boss, calling him names and referring to him as a murderer. She went ahead and held him by his clothes in the presence of one Abdurasheed Sosuma, police report filed at the court revealed.

Jummai even threatened to use her relations in Jos to trace the house of the police officer and unleash havoc that could snowball into another round of ethno-religious violence in the state.

The court was told that all efforts by the suspect to engage the commissioner in physical combat failed as he restrained himself from fighting her.

Jummai, according to the report however, denied charges of intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace, defamation of character, assault, criminal force without provocation, criminal intimidation and obstructing of public servant on the discharge of his lawful duty when she appeared in court.

The prosecuting police officer, Anthony Edward, opposed to her release on bail, saying she was already on bail in another case before the same court, and she had by committing this offence, breached bail condition. He therefore based his objection of the bail on Section 341 Subsection 2a, b, c of the Criminal Procedure Code, adding that she had no known address, and could therefore jump bail.

Trial Senior Magistrate Abdullahi Mohammed Dawakiji remanded the Hajiya Jummai in jail and adjourned the case to November 9 for hearing.
