A 32-year-old woman, Zainab Adenike, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Iyaganku magistrates’ court in Ibadan, Oyo State, over alleged fraud.
Zainab, whose address was not provided, was charged with stealing and obtaining gold under false pretense.
She pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Sgt Samuel Owolabi, told the court that the defendant on October 27, at the Oranyan Market, Ibadan, obtained 13.9g of gold jewellery from one Mrs Tawa Sanusi under the pretext of going to pay her N2.2m.
Owolabi further alleged that the defendant obtained another 48.5g of gold jewellery from one Adeola Adewale with a promise to pay her N7.6m but failed to do so.
He told the court that the defendant absconded with the gold without paying either of the complainants.
The Magistrate, Mrs Gladys Oladele, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2m with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to February 4, 2026. (NAN)
