A 21-year-old woman, Adegesin Fatimoh, yesterday appeared in an Abeokuta chief magistrates’ court, sitting in Isabo, for allegedly abducting a five-year-old girl.

Fatimoh, whose address was not provided, had pleaded not guilty to a count charge of unlawful abduction, with intent to steal a child.

The prosecutor, Insp. Bukola Abolade, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on Oct. 8, at about 1:00pm at NEPA Road, Abeokuta.

Abolade said the accused unlawfully took the child away with intent to steal her.

She said Oluwasikemi was playing by the roadside, when the accused stopped and held her hand and took her away.

“A neighbour, who had a shop on the road and knew the little girl, saw the accused taking the little girl away.”

She said the neighbour followed the accused to see if she was going toward the little girl’s house, but the accused passed Oluwasikemi’s house without dropping her there.

The prosecutor said the neighbour immediately raised alarm and the accused was apprehended and interrogated, adding that she never knew or met Oluwasikemi before.

The chief magistrate, Mrs Titi Bello, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100, 000, with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until Nov. 14 for hearing. (NAN)
