A 66-year-old woman, Marie Adeola, was arraigned on Monday at a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing property worth N10.7 million from her daughter-in-law.

The defendant, whose address was not provided, faces a single charge of theft.

The prosecution counsel, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in August, at about 11 am at 4th Cele, Itoga Road, Badagry, Lagos.

Ekpo alleged that Adeola sent the complainant, Seraph Temidayo, out of her matrimonial home after the death of her husband.

The prosecution stated that the defendant then stole all the property in the house, valued at N10.7 million, despite Temidayo being legally married to her son.

The offence, according to the prosecution, contravenes Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015.

Chief Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦1 million with two sureties.

Layeni ordered that one of the sureties must be a community leader.

The case was adjourned until September 25, for mention. (NAN)
