No fewer than 500 people in Rimin Kebe and Sabon Gari areas of Kano metropolis have received new clothes and cooked food from a philanthropist in his effort to put smiles on them and reduce the burden of hardship being experienced in the country.

The philanthropist, Adesuwa Ogechi Udo, through her Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), El’s Empowerment Foundation, also empowered 10 women with grinding machines and cash tokens to start small-scale businesses.

Miss Ogechi, a resident of Sabon Gari, said the gesture was towards contributing her quota to ending poverty and empowering people.

She said the beneficiaries were mostly women as they were always marginalised and sometimes stranded at home doing nothing.

Miss Ogechi further said, “The motive behind this is to empower women, especially widows, so that they can become independent. I just felt the widows deserve to be treated better than the way they are being maltreated and neglected by family members and so on.

“So we decided to offer our own contribution, and part of it as you can see, we have also distributed 300 school bags and 550 wrappers in Rimin Kebe and Sabon Gari respectively.”

A beneficiary of the gesture and mother of four, Adama Abdullahi, said she had never gotten support like that since her husband died seven years ago.
