A yet-to-be identified woman has died after she allegedly jumped into the lagoon from the top of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
The Lagos Police Command in a statement yesterday said the incident occurred around 4pm on Thursday, while there was low traffic on the entire stretch of the bridge.
The police said the incident occurred along the University of Lagos (UNILAG) waterfront in Lagos State, resulting in her death despite rescue efforts.
It was learnt that marine police officers stationed in the area alongside some local fishermen formed the initial rescue team.
Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the report on Friday.
He stated that despite the marine police officers’ efforts to save her, medical personnel from the University of Lagos confirmed her dead upon arrival.
He stated that the body of the deceased has since been evacuated to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba for preservation.
