A Sharia Court in Kofar Kudu, Kano Municipal, has ordered the remand of a woman accused of poisoning two of her friends.
The accused, Maryam Muhammad, a resident of Tudun Wuzirchi, was arraigned on charges of allegedly administering a harmful substance to her friends, Ummaima and Fatima Muhammad.
According to the prosecution, Maryam reportedly visited the victims at the hospital and offered them a local drink, sobo(hibiscus juice), mixed with milk. Shortly after consuming the drink, both victims allegedly became severely ill and lost consciousness.
The prosecution counsel read the charges against the accused, but she pleaded not guilty.
Presiding Judge Shamsuddeen Ado Abdullahi Unguwar Gini ordered that the accused be remanded at a correctional facility until September 19, 2025.
He further directed the prosecution to present witnesses to substantiate the allegations, following the accused’s denial of the charges.
