An Ikeja Chief Magistrate Court on Thursday ordered the remand of a 28-year-old woman, Joy Orban, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly trafficking a seven-day-old baby.
Orban, who resides at Mayomi Street, Dutse, Abuja, is standing trial for child trafficking.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. L. A. Owolabi, who did not take the suspect’s plea, ordered that she be remanded in the correctional centre until October 29, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, told the court that the offence was committed on July 18 at Ojodu Berger, Lagos.

Ademigbuji said that the suspect boarded a night bus from Abuja to Lagos.
He said that during the journey, one of the passengers questioned the defendant on why she was traveling with a baby of such an age.
He said that the passenger, who was not satisfied or convinced by the suspect’s answer, alerted the police when they got to Berger.
The prosecutor said that during interrogation, the suspect told the police that she was given the seven-day-old baby girl by a woman in Abuja to give to another woman in Lagos.
Ademigbuji said that the police are working hard to get the other accomplices.
He added that the offence contravened Section 276 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
