A housewife, Kadijat Yahaya, has been arrested by the police in Chukuku village in Kuje, FCT, for allegedly bathing an 18-month-old son of her husband’s second wife with boiling water.
A resident of the community, Isa Musa, said the distressed mother of the child, Mrs. Nana Yahaya, who narrated the ordeal of the little boy in the hands of Khadijat, said the incident happened on Wednesday, after she went to the market to purchase household items, while the child was left at home with the accused.
He said Nana claimed that the accused alleged that she was annoyed with the boy for eating the moi-moi (a local beans meal) she had cooked without her permission.
The mother of the child, who was badly burnt on his hands and buttocks, reported the incident to the village head of Chukuku, who immediately invited the police from Kuje, who arrested the accused.
Our reporter learnt that the husband, who is a labourer was not at home when the incident happened.
Effort to contact the Kuje Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) John Ali Zango, was not successful as his phone was not connecting, but an officer at the station confirmed the incident, saying the woman has been detained and investigation was ongoing.
