Woman seeks divorce over alleged hubby’s irresponsible behaviour, lack of love

A businesswoman, Joy Akogwu , on Tuesday pleaded with an Upper Area Court, Mararaba in Nasarawa State, to dissolve her marriage to Monday Akogwu over alleged irresponsible behaviour, battery and lack of love.

Joy told the court that the marriage was blessed with two children.

She said that the respondent has over the years failed in his responsibility as a husband and a father.

“Since we got married, Monday has been violent to me.

“At every slight provocation he beats me, especially during pregnancy.

“He once threatened to kill me and told me no one will question him if he kills me, even when my pastor intervened, my husband vowed to have nothing to do with me again.

“There has never been any form of up keep from him or footing the family bills to the extent that the landlord threw us out because my husband could not pay our rent.

“In fact, he does not care, nor feed me and the children properly. He lied about everything and keeps late night.

“I am fed up with the relationship, I have no love again for Monday and our marriage has broken down irretrievably, I want our marriage dissolve,” she told court.

The petitioner asked the court to grant her custody of the children.

She also urged the court to compel the respondent to enroll their first child in school and compel to pay N20,000 monthly for the children’s upkeep and their medical bills.

The respondent, however, was absent in court in spite several service of hearing notice on him.

The judge, Mr Ibrahim Shekarau, adjourned the case until April 10 for hearing and consideration of settlement. (NAN)
