A woman identified as Bashirat Qodri on Tuesday applied to a court to divorce her husband, Solihu Musa, at the Area Court, Centre-igboro, Ilorin, Kwara State over his jealous behavior.

She asked the court to dissolve the Islamic marriage and requested custody and maintenance for the only child from their union.

“My husband asked me to leave his house before the first week of September, so I moved out,” she said.

She added, “The place I wanted to rent had a condition that I must be married, so I pleaded with the caretaker to present himself as my husband.

“My husband started asking about me in the neighborhood, and when he discovered my apartment, he began harassing me, accusing me of fornicating.”

The husband told the court he also wanted a divorce, claiming his wife had moved into another man’s house with her three daughters.

He stated that his wife had two daughters from her previous marriage and one with him, adding that she did not take care of them and was not capable of doing so.

The presiding Judge, Idris Etsu, ruled that since both parties were no longer interested in the marriage, there was no need to force them to stay together.

Etsu dissolved the Islamic marriage, granted the mother custody of the child, and instructed her to observe a three-month iddah period before she could remarry.

The judge ordered the father to pay N10,000 monthly for maintenance, be responsible for the child’s school fees, and cover medical expenses when the need arises.

He also granted the father unrestricted access to his child at a reasonable time. (NAN)
