A woman, Theresa Awuhe, has been shot to death in Gyado Village, Makurdi, Benue State.
It was gathered that Theresa was attacked while returning home from her shop.
A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said that Theresa, popularly known as Tessy, was on her way home around 10pm, accompanied by her relatives who visited her shop, when her assailant struck.
The resident said, “She was taking a shortcut when someone appeared with a pistol and shot her from behind. The other two women with her, one of who was carrying a baby, ran away.

“Tessy fell to the ground and cried out, ‘Jesus’, before the attacker fired again. The assailant then approached and shot her in the head at close range. It appears to be a targeted assassination as nothing was stolen from her.
She further said, “There are many rumours about her death. Some speculate that a man who had set her up in business discovered she was no longer interested in him and was seeing someone else.”
The state’s police spokeswoman, SP Catherine Anene, said the matter was reported to the police and that investigation was ongoing.
