Members of the Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN), the women’s wing of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria recently exchanged their spreadsheets and calculators for sightseeing and relaxation as they embarked on a memorable train excursion from Lagos to Abeokuta aboard the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) train service.

The event, tagged the “SWAN Hangout,” brought together female finance professionals from different sectors for a unique blend of networking, relaxation, and cultural exploration, using rail transportation as a platform for leisure and social bonding.

Departing Lagos in high spirits, the chartered train ride offered members an opportunity to temporarily step away from the demanding routines of corporate schedules, audits, and boardroom engagements. Dressed in colourful casual outfits instead of their traditional corporate attire, the participants enjoyed hours of lively interaction, laughter, and informal networking throughout the journey.

On arrival in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital renowned for its rich cultural heritage, the group toured some of the city’s historical and tourist attractions, including the famous Olumo Rock and the palace of the Alake of Egbaland.

The excursion offered members an opportunity to reconnect with Nigeria’s cultural history while strengthening professional and personal relationships outside the workplace.

Speaking during the outing, members of the association commended the NRC for providing what they described as a safe, clean, comfortable, and highly efficient travel experience.

They noted that the punctuality and convenience of the train service contributed significantly to the success of the event and made the journey stress-free and enjoyable.

According to the participants, the rail excursion demonstrated the growing appeal of train transportation for tourism, corporate bonding, and group engagements, while also highlighting the improving quality of rail services across the country. 

The successful outing is also expected to encourage more professional associations and corporate organizations to explore rail transportation for recreational and official group activities in the future.

At the end of the historic excursion, the SWAN members returned home with renewed energy, stronger bonds of friendship, and memorable experiences, further reinforcing the importance of relaxation and social connection in today’s demanding professional environment.
