Country Director, UNAIDS, Dr Bilali Camara has said if any country must develop; it must involve women and put  them in roles to play active part in governance.
Camara stated this during the launch and dissemination of the National Gender Mainstreaming and HIV/AIDs toolkit.
He said “if you see a village which is developed, you will notice that the number of women who has voices are many.”
Speaking at the event, the DG National Agency for the Control of Aids (NACA) Professor John Idoko said the launching of the documents and tools will help to mainstream gender into all HIV response activities around the country.
“In this country, nearly 50% of people with HIV are women. If we want to control HIV, we must make sure we empower women in all our activities. Whether it is prevention, treatment, care and support. That is what the tool will achieve.” Idoko said.
Assistance Chief Social welfare officer (Orphans and vulnerable Children) at the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs Usani Mfawa said the document is a response to alleviate the problems faced by women and children especially the ones living with HIV/AIDS.
