Women have the capacity to contribute immensely to economic growth if they are empowered with different skills and business platforms, the President of Rotary Club of Abuja Metro, Osi Imomoh, has said.

Imomoh stated this during the empowerment of widows by the club with gas cookers, sewing machines and take-off grants after completion of skill acquisition training in tailoring and pastries making at the Centre for Women Development (CWD), Abuja recently.

He said, “There are so many of these widows that are looking for empowerment to contribute meaningfully to economic growth but have not gotten any. As such, we call on donor agencies and government to look into women empowerment as a matter of priority.”

Imomoh added that the economy over the years has suffered setback as a result of inadequate planning to include women in the aspect of medium scale enterprises which are today opening ways for women to key into different business ventures and contribute their quota to national development.  

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Akpulu Rosemary said the machines and cash donated would be judiciously used to set up their own businesses and assured Rotary Club of their commitment to put into practice all they have learnt.
