Gaidam, who was represented by the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission’s Administration Secretary Greg Tarkumbur,  at a one-day workshop organised for women and other disadvantaged groups with the theme “Enhancing Women Participation in the Electoral Process” yesterday in Gombe, said that as at March 5, a total of 1,067,886 PVCs have been distributed in the state.
He said the 68,284 unclaimed PVCs belong to Gombe and Akko local government areas with Gombe having the highest number of 30, 632 and Akko LGA 16, 777 unclaimed PVCs. He therefore called on the affected LGAs to come forward and collect theirs.
He said the success is attributed to the launching of Gender Policy by INEC last year to expand the space for gender participation in the political process.
National President for the blind, Ishaku Adamu, thanked INEC for the introduction of Braille materials for voter education. He called for employment of person with disability by the INEC in Gombe.
He said the Braille will enable the blind to read and understand the rules governing the electoral process and this he said will no doubt go a long way in educating the blind and other persons with disability.
