Several women residing in the area were given free mango seedlings during the Tree Planting Exercise which is part of association’s Climate Change Project.
Speaking during the planting exercise, Engr Ebere Ugwoke, the Project Director, explained that Global Warming was a very serious problem caused by overuse and abuse of the environment by human activities.
She stressed that one way of saving our environment was by consistently planting trees, adding that APWEN, Abuja Chapter, has undertaken to plant trees using volunteer women in the community.
She said a competition would be held at the end of which monetary prizes would be given to women who nurtured the trees to proper growth.
“This year, Sabon Gari, a community within the Bwari Area Council was chosen for the tree planting project. Mango seedlings were chosen due to the plant’s economic value and the enormous amount of shade it provides when fully grown,” she said.
In his response, the village head of Sabon Gari community, Malam Musa Gimba, said he was impressed with APWEN because of its kind gesture and effort to protect life and environment.
