APWEN which is made up of professional female engineers in all engineering areas has membership of 1,500 in Nigeria. The body encourages the girl-child to study engineering.
The new president promised to strengthen APWEN chapters through reach out programmes.
APWEN under her will sponsor members to conferences and stimulate heightening of technical contributions at such fora.
“Mentoring of young engineers is crucial for their career development and provides confidence and impetus for younger colleagues to build successful careers in engineering,” the president said.
The out gone president, Mrs Layinka Abdul recalled her achievements saying under her, six new chapters of APWEN were opened.
She administered oath of office on the new president and wore the new president a medallion round her neck.
The new president in turn decorated the former president with an emblem and inaugurated the rest of the executive members.
Immediate past Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Dele Ezeoba who was guest of honour espoused the virtues of Mrs Akpedeye and charged the women engineers to take the post of president of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).
No female engineer has been president of NSE.
The guest speaker, Ghana’s minister of gender, children and social protection, Nana Lithur charged the new president to think of what she will be remembered for after serving her term.
