The women wing of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Kano state chapter has expressed concern over exclusion of women famers from various agricultural interventions and empowerment programmes introduced by the state government.

The Chairperson of the AFAN women wing, Hajiya Fatima Sharif, who made the disclosure at a press briefing, alleged that women farmers in the state were left to fend for themselves without been included in the state government owned empowerment programmes.

She added that, women farmers had responded to the call of the state and federal governments by engaging fully in all aspects of farming, but regrettably were excluded from empowerment programmes.

“It is discouraging that our engagement in what is termed as male dominated profession, women farmers in Kano state are left out in most of the empowerment projects embarked upon by the government.

“Some women farmers are considering a change in their chosen practice. We have formed associations and also followed all the needed procedures and yet we are relegated to no place in government priority list,” she lamented.
