The Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has stressed the need for more support for women as they form at least 87 per cent of the population in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in the state.

The acting Executive Secretary of SEMA, Sir James Iorpuu, who made the remark when he received a delegation from the League of Women Voters Association of Nigeria, Benue State shapter, in his office in Makurdi, described women voters as influential mothers who could help bring sanity and dignity to the displaced women in the camps.

He said that the women voters being advocates of good governance should team up with well-meaning individuals to join hands with the Benue State Government to cushion the plight of the displaced people, especially women and children.

Iorpuu appreciated the association for its willingness to partake massively in humanitarian affairs, especially to women, explaining that their living conditions in the camps were heartbreaking.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mrs Ruth Bem, said their visit was to familiarise with the SEMA boss and further seek partnerships to continue to assist persons of concern.
