Women fetch water from a pond in Tika village of Kuje Area Council.
The Village Chief of Tika Community in Rubochi Ward of Kuje Area Council, Chief Bature Aweko, has said women who usually go to the stream at night in search of water save the community from being attacked by armed bandits.
Chief Aweko made this known through his Secretary, Mr. Lazarus Bulus, on Sunday while narrating how gunmen killed a youth of the community last Tuesday.
He said some women who went to fetch water from a pond ran into gunmen in their large numbers and that one of the women ran back to the village and raised alarm.
Mr. Bulus said, “The women were at the stream waiting to get water from the pond when five gunmen appeared and asked them not to panic, saying they only came to fetch water too.”
He said some youths mobilised themselves with locally made guns and rushed to the stream and engaged the gunmen and that the gunmen repelled them and killed one of the youths.
The traditional ruler, while expressing concern over the spate of insecurity in the community, appealed to government to as a matter of urgency come to the aid of the community by providing security.
