Women Group launches appeal fund for IDPs

A group under the auspices of Women Led Civil Society Organisations has launched an appealed fund to support victims of recent attacks by Boko Haram insurgents in Geidam, Yobe State.
The chairperson of the organisation, Husna Ibrahim, announced this at a ‘grand iftar’ organised by the forum in Damaturu.
Husna noted that the gathering was also aimed at seeking support for IDPs and demonstration of unity, progress and peaceful coexistence among women from various organisations.
“I am happy to say that for the first time in the whole region, women from civil society organisations came together under one umbrella to achieve a common a goal, it is obviously a thing of pride for all of us.
“May I use this opportunity to also appeal to non-governmental organisations, philanthropists and individuals to remember our brothers and sisters from Geidam currently taking refuge in various communities. I believe our collective support would mean a lot to them”
She stressed that the displaced persons, especially the women, are in serious need of livelihood intervention because many left their houses without carrying anything.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Hauwa Bah Abubakar, commended the forum for the initiative.
